CULTURAL TOUR

In the 1960s,  Mto wa Mbu was declared an “Ujamaa” village: a component of former Tanzanian President Nyerere’s experiment in African socialism. The main effect of this (unsuccessful) project  is the extraordinary ethnic diversity of this village nowadays. Members of almost 50 tribes live there. Earlier, in the mid 1950s, an irrigation project from Lake Manyara realized good farming there. Mto wa Mbu nowadays is a very fertile area; it even has its own rice fields.

At a guided cultural tour you’ll experience it all, including a visit to the local market.
