OL
Mesera is situated at a unique, quiet location, but
is centrally located with respect to numerous points of interest. This
enables
you to take several day excursions from the Camp, which is much more
relaxing
than hustling from one place to another.
Our
Camp is near many of the famous destinations in
‘the Northern Circuit’:
- Lake Manyara National Park
is
practically on our doorstep, just across the road in Mto wa Mbu.
- Ngorongoro
crater is about 65
kilometers away.
- Tarangire
National Park
is also some 65
km away.
- Engaruka Village with its
ruins of long lost Maasai civilization and cave paintings is 35 km
away.
- 65 km
beyond Engaruka is the active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai,
otherwise known as the Holy Mountain of the Maasai God ‘Ngai’.
- Nearby
the volcano is Lake Natron
with its water shimmering in the heat; the water is a breeding place
for lesser flamingo’s, often you can see flocks of thousands.
- Engaruka
and Lake Natron have an extraordinary beauty, very dry and
rocky. They give the impression as
if you're gazing at a landscape on the moon.
- We’re
on a 2 hours drive distance from Arusha .
We are close to the road connecting Mto wa Mbu
- Engaruka - Ol Doinyo Lengai - Lake Natron.
You can find us with GPS by using the coordinates S 03°
16.327, E 035° 56.623
The
nearest village is Selela, which is 12 km
north of us, while Mto
wa Mbu village is 14 km
to the south. There you’ll find the daily market, shops,
medical
service and an internet café. We buy our
fresh food there daily.
Although it’s not very common, you can do a self-drive
safari tour in Tanzania.
The main advantage is the total feeling of freedom: look at a group of animals
or stay in the middle of the Ngorongoro crater just as long as you want. A
disadvantage can be that you miss the radio contact with other safari drivers
to inform you where a group of lions or a leopard has been spotted. It’s just a
matter of preference.
But make sure that you hire a car with a Tanapa
license, otherwise it’s forbidden to enter the official National Parks of
Tanzania. And you need a 4x4 car to be allowed in the Ngorongoro crater.
To arrive at the Camp drive from Arusha towards Mto wa Mbu, then turn
right and
take Engaruka road for 14 km
until you see our signboard “Ol Mesera Tented Camp”. Turn left there
and drive
for another 1.5
km
and voila, you're just in time for a memorable experience in Tanzania.
